Tomorrow River Coincidence?
A simple story in pictures. The first person to recognize my ‘professional writing’ was a lady named Barbara Fitz Vroman. She was the co-author of a novel titled ‘Tomorrow is a River’. (pub. 1977) Barbara passed away in 2012, but before that, she wrote a review for my story. After ‘publishing’ my first novel in 2016, EENY MEENY CRIMINY CROW, last night I gave my first ‘public’ reading at the Waupaca Community Arts Center. The center overlooks…yes…it’s really no surprise…Tomorrow River. I took a walk on the catwalk and accidentally caught my shadow when I took a photo of the river in front of me. Thank you Barbara, for being there so obviously in spirit. My journey truly has begun.

The first time we thought we lost Grandma Carolyn was back in 1980. She had a heart attack that blew out the bottom of her heart. The doctor said there was no way a person could live through a massive heart attack like that, left with only half of her heart. But when she woke from surgery the first thing she said was, “Where’s my teeth?” and the second thing she said was, “What’s it going to take for me stay alive with just half a heart?”
The doctor said, “You’ve got to walk, everyday, to strengthen what’s left of your heart and maybe you’ll make it a couple more years.”
That doctor had long since passed and we fast forward to 1993, the second time we thought we lost Grandma. We knew she always walked, due to that doctor’s orders. So we looked everywhere, in the chicken coop, the horse pasture, in the garden. Finally mom hollered, “Mother! If you can hear me, answer me!”
A voice rang down upon us. “What the hell are you all doing? I’m up here.” Our heads swiveled upward, and there was Grandma Carolyn perched atop the windmill. She was 83 years old. We felt relieved and foolish at the same time. But we lost Grandma for good on April 17, 2016.
She was at home lying in her bed. She’d asked mom a week before, “Is it okay for me to go?” Mom told her, “Mother, I will love you wherever you are. Here or there or anywhere.” Grandma exited one week later.
Four days after Grandma left, Prince died. In an elevator. I like to think he was on his way up. And Grandma was waiting by the gate, saying, “I don’t know you, son. I never listened to that kind of music. I was more traditional country. But it was all about heartache – most music.” And Prince reached out to her. The wrinkles were nearly gone in her hand. Those big gates opened and they stepped into some kind of rain. ♪♫ Oo-oo-oo-oo ♫ Oo-oo-oo-oo ♪♪ – and when they got past the gate, every heart that had ever got broken – was mended.
Bless you Grandma. Miss you. Rest in peace. ❤

Copy of the facebook launch page:
I would like to officially invite you to follow my facebook page, Once Upon a Blank Page. Right now, I guess I’m what you call an ‘independent author’ (indie author), but really I’m open to every type of publishing possible. A wise lady once told me, “Your biggest limitation is yourself. Why settle for just one way of doing things?”
For years I have been writing things and sticking them away in folders in the bottom of my desk drawer. I’ve published a few things. Some folks …say nice stuff about things I’ve written. Others wonder if I’ll ever publish anything BIG. But here’s the thing… no matter what anyone says, I write something – every day.
This page was created to share with you the things I’m working on; how I work on them; why I work on them. On these pages I’ll be looking for feedback. Anything that will help me become a better writer as well as a better known writer. I hope to gain courage to share what I’ve written instead of hiding it in my desk drawer. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you enjoy the journey.

I included a short video clip of a character I call “Auth Or” getting up out of a drawer, dusting herself off and getting her work out there. Here is the rough draft drawing I used for the clip.
