Cousin Cindy, Me and Puberty

We sulked when we didn’t get our way.

We stalked the boy next door,

pummeled him with questions,

pinned him to the wall until he answered,

forced him to tell us everything he knew

about sex, love, liquor, and God.

He told us God was the sky.

We believed him,

but we weren’t impressed.

He told us cherry was his favorite flavor,

And we were too naïve to know why,

so we made it our favorite flavor too.

He said boys would want us, but

we already knew that.
